The Power of the Tridevi

The Tridevi hold great significance in the Indian Mythology. Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati and Parvati are often associated with their consorts Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. Together the consorts are also known as the Trimurti. Without the Tridevi, the Trimurti are not complete. Brahma needs Sarswati’s knowledge for creation, Vishnu needs Laxmi’s grace, beauty and wealth to preserve and Shiv needs goddess Parvati for power.

The goddesses are represented together standing on a rich mythological significance lotus representing purity, fearlessness and love. Each goddess is crowned and wears a bindi on the forehead. Together they constitute the Tridevi and are considered as powerful as their counterparts.

Laxmi is the goddess of prosperity, spiritual & material wealth as well as embodiment of beauty, grace and charm. She represents calmness, wealth and good luck. She stands on a full bloomed lotus and holds a lotus bud in her hand. Her four hands represent dharma, karma, artha and moksha.

Being the female consort of Lord Vishnu, she is also referred to as ‘Shri’ -- the female energy of the Supreme being and provides him with wealth for maintaining & preserving creation. Goddess Laxmi (http://forbesindia.com/blog/editors-blog/why-we-put-goddess-lakshmi-on-the-cover-of-forbes-india-rich-list-2012/) is worshipped by the Hindus to maintain well being and prosperity in their lives. Parvati is the Hindu goddess of love and devotion, she is regarded as the power and divine counterpart of Lord Shiva http://www.exoticindiaart.com/book/details/siva-purana-4-volumes-NAB424/. When represented independently the Goddess has four hands two hands holding red and blue lotuses and the other two demonstrating the Varada and Abhaya mudras.         She depicts an ideal example of family, unity and love. When represented with Shiva she has two hands, one holding a blue lotus and the other placed on the side. She is a perfect example that there are no limits to what a woman is capable of when she uses her spiritual energy to get what she wants. She is worshiped by women for marital bliss.

Saraswati http://www.exoticindiaart.com/ct/hinduism/saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music  and arts. She is also worshipped by the followers of Jain religion. She is the consort of Lord Brahma providing him the knowledge to create. She represents intelligence, consciousness, power, cosmic knowledge, creativity, education, enlightenment, eloquence and essential divine knowledge. She is dressed in white signifying the purity of knowledge and rides on a white swan.

She also represents prosperity and fertility. She is seated on a white lotus and is also associated with yellow. She is also a prominent figure in Buddhism. Her four arms represent four aspects of human personality in learning; mind, intellect, alertness and ego. She holds the sacred scripture in one hand and lotus in the other. She plays the musical instrument Veena. She is worshiped by the devotees on Vasant Panchami (http://www.mapsofindia.com/events/india/vasant-panchmi.html) which is celebrated on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha.
